this thread is a typical Riversidefail.
Z Chest by no means "ruined the economy".... God, stop whining, and on top of it, making things up. What screwed up (and didn't even ruin), the economy, is overfarming, botting, duping, and price drivers, in both positive, and negative selling markets.
to the OP:
i hated prophecies, beat it with my warrior and mesmer, and played WoW till Factions came out. deleted my old stuff, restarted as Canthans, (first remade my warrior and made a sin and rit), and never looked back all 10 professions/all campaigns/gwen completed, elite junk blah blah blah.
i think Guild Wars is the best MMO out right now hands down (i hated WoW, it was just better than proph at the time imo), and until something better comes out, i'll keep playing it.

i rest my case.
seems you just cant explain everything.
P.S.
sigh, btw OVER FARMING of zaishen chest destroyed GW.
not just over farming by themselves, or zaishen chest by themselves.
last post for me in this thread.

I'm sorry but as far as game play goes, it feels about the same to me as it did on day 1 for the largest part of the game.
Its played the same.
The rewards are about the same. Though more evenly distributed now to more people instead a select few farmers.
The difficulty is actually a little easier, but Hard Mode makes up for that deficiently.
And the random Pugs are about the same as I got from the beginning.
Where there has been significant improvements, is expansion of lore, lots new territory to cover, great items and more ways to get them besides needless farming. And great new additions to things like storage, halls, and alliances to make the game more enjoyable for groups of people to play together more regularly.
The optional titles are kinda a pain at times, but they remain optional. so that is acceptable. If you manage to get a few then you get some extra bonus that is useful, so thats a good thing. but the game is by no means impossible if you do not go for a max title. Indeed most of my titles save for my main character sit at about 50%-60%... and thats just from casual playing.
PvP essentially has seen its golden age at the beginning, and now its just there. No significant improvements have been made to it after the creation of battle isle, and in the end it just went downhill from there. The endless tweaking and nerfing, and gimmicks in it, just serves to make it a place for the most undesirable players that are not social enough to hack it in the rest of the game without their elitism attitudes. Now thats just my opinion on it. I have gone from loving every aspect of Tombs(PvP), to total loathing of heroes ascent. Especially when it was cut down to 6 players. After that I never returned to the area again. And I doubt I ever will. And random arenas as it stands today, is quite frankly a waste. Even with the dishonor hex its not a place I personally want to be around as the elements that participate in it are more often then not, a bunch of arrogant and wicked people to be around. People I would not let within 20 feet of me in real life so why would I choose to be around them and listen to their potty mouths in a game?
It was much better back when all the arenas were separated because at times you could find an arena that was not stockpiled with nothing but the dredge of the player pool to have a chance to play with and make new friends. Something that just does not seem to happen much in this area of the game any longer. Again My opinion.
Some will say all the better that Me and my like who was there from the beginning are not in there anymore. so be it. we don't want to be there, and they do not want us there. and that is fine at this point as from that standpoint, they are practically two separate games now anyway.
Over all I think GW is still a great game. When compared to other MMOs its still got a lot going for it. The community relations are still there, and no one can beat the client model. Downtime just does not exist in this game. Streaming updates as you go is fantastic, and instance based missions defiantly make it more stable then other MMOs. No one can put a doubt on that... Raids and Strike forces in persistent realms in comparison to a full party mission that is Instanced is very efficient and stable. And the added drop security is well worth it in GW.
And then there are henchmen and heroes. While I do not personally like to be driven to using them all the time, as I feel it makes it too much a single player game. I have to admit its funner to play with more people then alone. and in the absence of finding people to play with Henchmen heroes make up for that deficiency. I have played other MMOs when you get stuck alone its just an endless boring grind of the same thing over and over and over again till you get to a level to advance to the next area of the game, and HOPE to find more people to play with... In GW HH may not be desirable, but you CAN complete the entire game using nothing but them and never talk to another sole, and thus make yourself available to play with others in more advanced areas in a sorter time then ave in comparison to other MMOs.
It does not mean I dont play other games. indeed GW is my casualy game, and will ALWAYS be. I come to it when I get bored with other things. Which happens more often then not. WoW, 6 weeks too boredom, CoV get my attention for a few months at a time, then it gets boring. Galaxies is a joke which is a shame. Battlefield 2 snatches up weeks at a time, then happily back in GW. UT3 and CoD4 get a few days here and there but not many...
Basically it always comes back to GW and every time I come back it feels refreshing and new, and drops remain quality... I do not over farm an area because I am a casual player, and as such I am always happy with what I get. I do not need multi millions to attain stuff that is just as good as the free collector or craftable items. And when I get a rare skin all the better. It just does not matter, and never has. GW will always be the game I come back to and makes me happy. Why? Its free to play, it favors players that play occasionally, instead of those that have Bots on 24/7 farming for them. and you do not need millions to be good at the game as almost everything in it is balanced out to be equal in ability. And finally and most importantly to me, Anything you build and progress towards REMAINS there at all times without micromanaging. Guild halls once upgraded stay there(even not upgraded), Inventories can not be looted, and accounts are not deleted for inactivity. So basically GW is a user friendly game that encourage you to play when you want to and not become obsessed or addicted to it just to advance or worse maintain what you have.

I've been around since the beginning and I have no idea what people are complaining about. The game is way better than when it started. More options, more weapons, Heroes, more events, minigames, inscriptions, insignias etc... The "old days" only worked well because the game was new. It would get very boring if it just stayed that way.

scroll up and read my arguments. thnx
As i said "chests are bad. my whole argument was chests made it easier to get rare items rather than drop my monster. you said it yourself, if those chests werent remove they would have been oversupplied.
so to counter that, a.net removed those chest. end result is you can only get crystalline in HA"
Wer do u get crystalline? Do HA,boy i bet you couldnt even go to the 2nd round. see if its harder than to get 5k faction. read my post, b4 u say anything. ok? which one is harder to get too? zaishen or hoh chest?
btw their drop rate is the same. so how come HA chest didnt affect the value of crystalline? cause its hard to get there and even harder to get a good drop
how many teams win each day? 20-30? maybe? well those 20-30 teams can be duplicated for 20-30 keys of zaishen. HA chests < Zaishen chest,
P.S back in the day its harder to get a 15^50 or a decent mod crystalline, however zaishen drops insc. so whatever it drops, its considered perf.
i still stand by my decision.
Chest sucks.

Negligate, that was the worst block of text I will never read. If that was proper English I would be illiterate.
And I do feel that special twinkle when I remember first reaching Lions Arch like most "since Betas" people here are used to, and I do look back fondly on those days. But I realise, if those days stuck with us, man, I wouldn't be playing this game for much longer than that. Sure, nerfing gets frustrating for PvP, but it doesn't really affect us PvE players. I have way to many hours that I feel like sharing (its somewhat of a stigma I might say lol), but I haven't really noticed any major slacking of fun times this game has given me. I notice the vast amount of improvements and additions over anything taken away from me.
And like I mention to anyone who is frustrated and such, take a break. There is no monthly fee and no pressure. Pressure is the focus of other MMOs to keep playing, in that if you stop, you become inferior. GW is masterful at not replicating that terrible feeling. The grind in GW is nothing compared to the grind that is produces by the effect of pressure. And I can't express enough the awesomeness that is being able to walk away from an MMO without penalty. Its just another game I can play, and its my favorite, even after all these years. If I never game to Guru, I would never doubt some of my positions lol.

God I hate Guru sometimes. Every other month "GW's economy is ruined."

Its just some stuff lose value and the economy shifts to other products.

QFT to the power of QFT. I did have more fun then. I think there have been many many great changes and a few crappy ones. Overall, I think the + outweigh the -. I still did have more fun back in the day.

Agreed, these threads, and certain people posting in them make me think of a certain "P" word that would describe them, and it's not pancakes.
I too shall be ban and flamed.
The game is older, your bound to have less fun with it the longer you play, if you can find a better game, I urge you to play it.

The game while Factions was out was at a strong point. However, I still think the class Prophecies only time was the best there is.

Prophecies PvE: With all the new skills, heroes, and AI updates, you have to be really retarded do get into trouble here.
Factions PvE: Lots of empty areas, especially in the 'harder' missions such as Gyala (which are still a cakewalk with heroes).
Nightfall PvE: Introduced title grind that you need to do to participate in hte endgame. Everything before Ruins of Morah is even easier than Prophecies, so if you don't have it, you're not missing anything.
EotN PvE: Grind for armor. Grind for skills. Grind for weapons. Grind the entire expansion through. Or you can just do the mani quests and dungeons and get the hell out of there. Nothing you're missing.
RA: Still as random as ever, and since the Dishonorable update, quite annoying if both teams are full of tanks.
TA: Still full of people who think they know a thing about PvP and mess up every time.
HA: Face the same build over and over. If you can get into a team, that is.
GvG: Even worse than HA. Thanks to many updates, there is now just 1 build that everyone runs. It used to be fun to observe, but when there is no room for variety, the fun quickly goes away.
AB: It's fun, sometimes.

some things were better some things were worse, this is pretty much pointless, as in a complex multilayered game environment you can never simply say its better or worse. Its only on individual changes that can be said.
Then you will always have various opinions on how a nerf or new introduction will affect certain play styles.
Comming in a couple of months before factions was released i can't even properly answer this question as I don't have knowledge of how the game operated beforehand. An example would be limitless minions, which i never experienced, but would have liked to have done so

I think GW is better now. And will be better everyday. GW2 will be even better.
ArenaNet is going in the right way, even when some "good" things die in the process. Example: Oh! I found a perfect farming build/place, I am doing 100k per hour, Oh! Yeah! I am finally rich! ... 3 days later ... ArenaNet nerfs build/place, you cannot make 100k per hour anymore ... So, was better for you (and some people) to make 100k per hour, but the real best thing was nerf it asap, for the whole economy. And so many examples.

Better Before or After? BEFORE. Who likes gwars nowadays with:
20 million nerfs, (caused by PvPers and echoes into PvE, making the game that much more unpleasant)
loot-scaling, (get rich or die farming... prolly dieing forever more than the rich part... =/)
text-fade (to strain your eyes... to strain them real good),
dishonorable hex (to slow your pvp title-acquisition progress down greatly and piss you off followed by a strong slap to the face and insult, salt to injury and a nice strong squeeze to gash plus pouring lemon juice on it),
the /report command (an emo's favorite EMO-te to get innocent people in trouble because they don't like the person),
*End of List due to exhaustion of fingers/typing...* *Catches breath* *gasps*
Before is always better than after (when it comes to online gaming) simply because free of nerfs, dupes, exploits, imbalance...
